About Ethan's idea of a classic Traveller sourcebook, I myself know i
would like to see one.
Suere, it may seem like a cash crab, but.
#1 It would be a fun alternatitive to tne but with a better rule system
and easier to find that ct
#2 It would provide valuable background on worlds and the like. ease the
ref's task signifigentley.
#3 It would be helpful when planning recovery(smash&grab) missions for
the players. using a 'stanard' imperal chart of the area they could spot
high tech areas and search them out. Again, a aid to the ref.
#4 Even with some of the major planets labeld, it would still leave alot
of leeway. And if the ref does not like a sub-sector or whatnot. They could
always choose to ignor part or the entire book.
It coulden't hurt. and GDW probabley would make a profit offa it. seeing
as how alot of the stuff just needs to be compiled and updated.

Here's a house rule I've thought of. Let me know what you think.

When a character is injured, they have to roll a Willpower task to avoid
losing their next action. (Except the first wound, which automatically
causes a missed action.) The task is Easy for scratch wounds, Average for
slight wounds, and Difficult for serious wounds.

This means that really dumb characters with low willpower can be distracted
by pinpricks and never fight back effectively. It also means that in a
fistfight the fighter to land the first punch can keep his opponent off
balance.

Hello,

I was wondering if GDW is going to release some material on the pocket
empires leading from the RC to the Hiver Federation. Using Pre-Collapse
Sector information, I've tentatively mapped the three empires, the one
in subsector P of the Old Expanses, and those mainly in subsectors N
and C of sectors Hinterworlds and Spica respectively. I'd expect the
RC to have some relations with the empire in subsec P of the Old Exp-
anses, and Knowledge of the other 2 through it, that is if the Hivers
haven't told them already. Also, as those three empires are closer
to Hiver space, they may have recovered more than the RC, having
Hiver help for a longer time.
Sector P, to the best of my knowledge was in Solomani hands at the
Time of the collapse, but whether differing Solomani computers and
transponders (if they were different) would alleviate Collapse effects
I don't know. The subsec has 28 systems, of which 20 are probably dead.
The pocket empire, from the TNE known space map, has 12 systems, of
which 7 are probably dead, unless they survive through tenacity, like
the Balduri did. There is an Aubaine-type world, Syrim, at hex 2835,
previously pop A, TL E, quite habitable, and with a Naval Base, all
prior to the collapse. This world is probably the capital of the empire.
Of the other systems, at 2934 is Maurcam, starport B, pop 7, TL B prior
to the collapse, and Stad starport A, pop A, TL D and Naval Base prior
to the collapse, though Stad is inhospitable, and probably doesn't
survive into the New Era. Syrim had a Type A starport pre-NE. The other
surviving worlds (3 I think) are low tech.
The Sector N Hinterworlds empire is also nominally in Solomani hands
at the time of the collapse, I think. There are 21 worlds in it, some
in subsector O, 14 of there are probably dead. There seems no main
contender for main system of the empire, and most of the cemetary
worlds seem to be the Hi-Tech, A-B spaceport worlds.
At 1632 is Gamvina, previously B starport, TL 9, pop 6, which may have
survived with low pop, there are other similar worlds, but they may also
have survived with low populations. The main Capital worlds of the empire
may be Elan at 1335, starport B, pop 8, TL A, and/or Spire at 1836,
Starport A, pop 8, TL 9, both needing a Balduri-type miracle to survive.
The Empire mainly in subsector C of Spica sector was also nominaly
Solomani, but on the Hiver border at the time of the collapse.
The empire contains about 19 systems, most unnamed on my data, of which
9 probably see the New Era.
There is a strong candidate for capital, Nugent at 2010, starport A, pop 9
TL E, prior to the collapse, but as it has a low atmospheric pressure,
needs divine intervention to survive. A waterworld at 2306, with port A,
pop 8 and TL A is also a strong capital possibility, and has a better
chance of surviving than Nugent.

Well, that's all I've garnered on the Hiver-ward Pocket Empires, and I have
to point out that it is in no way gospel. Hopefully if GDW have the time
We'll be able to see the real state of affairs in those empires.

Yours,
Eamon Watters, QUB.
